She has worked for many years with problem dogs and is also an experienced breeder, agility trainer and judge. Her wealth of knowledge enables her to provide an insight into aspects of canine behaviour many owners would never have considered. Justine believes that in order to understand an animal you need to be able to see things from its point of view.
What is a behavioural problem? Well, this 'phrase' can cover a multitude of things because what is a 'problem' for one owner might not be seen as such by another. Common 'problems' include
Most behaviour issues are treatable although owners need to be aware that there is no such thing as an 'instant' cure and it takes time and effort to solve. An initial behavioural consultation will usually last for several hours as Justine will visit your home, assess your dog, discuss the problems, try to witness the dog displaying the problem behaviour, discuss with you her recommendations for modifying the behaviour and following the meeting up with a written report. The cost for this is $100 and ongoing telephone support is free, although if further visits are required these are charged at $25 per hour (including travelling time)
As a rule however, many issues are not actually behavioural ones, merely training ones. Owners often complain their dog jumps up, won't come back when called, pulls on the lead etc.
This is where our 'one on one' service comes in...... for a fee of $25 per hour (including travelling) Justine will come and visit you and show you how to train your dog so that it behaves in an acceptable manner. For best results we recommend that the whole family is involved in these sessions wherever possible to ensure consistency.
Please note we only use positive, reward based training methods and will never use, or advocate the use of choke chains, prong collars or shock collars.
